Reef Hawaiian Pro Looks to Resume Today1385200920
HONOLULU - (Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013) -- The REEF Hawaiian Pro is looking to resume today at Haleiwa's Ali'i Beach Park, with the option to carry over into Sunday. Just one day of competition remains and organizers have secured a permit extension to run on Sunday if necessary. It is possible that the final day of competition will be split in half to maximize the peak heights of the swell, potentially running Saturday afternoon and finishing up by midday Sunday. This is the first time in 31 years that the Vans Triple Crown has requested a permit extension in order to complete an event. It has happened due to an unseasonal flat spell on the North Shore.
"As far as I know, the Triple Crown has never requested an additional day or extended a waiting period before, nor have we never finished an event due to lack of surf," explains Contest Director Marty Thomas.
"The extra day is insurance just in case the forecast swell is slow in coming on. Fortunately we only have one day of competition remaining and now an extra day to cherry pick this small scale swell.
Check out the forecast for the weekend.
Long range forecasts look good for the second event of the Vans Triple Crown Series: The Vans World Cup at Sunset Beach.
