Vans Triple Crown Race: Can Ethan Ewing Hang On?Dec 12, 2019
With only 4 rounds left in the third jewel of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, we are down to 4 surfers who can take the prestigious title. Here's who and what they need to do:
Current Vans Triple Crown leader but with his loss in the Semifinals of the Pipe Invitational. All he can do is sit and watch as Bourez, Slater and Freestone attempt to steal it from him.
One of only five surfers in the history of the Vans Triple Crown to win at all three stops, Haleiwa, Sunset & Pipe (not even the G.O.A.T can claim that!).
Bourez needs to make the Semifinals at the Billabong Pipe Masters to win his maiden VTCS title.
The 1995 and 1998 Vans Triple Crown champ is back in the mix in 2019. For the 11x World Champ to win his third title, he needs to get make the Semifinals at Pipe and finish in front of the Tahitian Michel Bourez.
Australia's Jack Freestone needs to take the win at Pipe to win his first Vans Triple Crown but if Bourez or Slater make the Semifinals, then it's all over for Jack.
