Check Out How the Banzai Pipeline Really Works

Dec 10, 2017

The Banzai Pipeline on Oahu's North Shore is the most revered wave on the planet. When the wave is working, it's a mix of tropical dreams and nightmares. The allure is one of the best tubes on the planet, breaking in both directions on good days. The nightmare is the powerful punch the exposed Pacific Ocean swells can inflict on you should you make the slightest error. But what makes this miracle remotely possible is the bigger picture of an exposed North Shore, a watershed that's helped shape the reef, and some beautiful white sand shifting along the shoreline. During the Pipe Invitational on Friday, we took a pulled back look at the mechanics of Pipeline. Peter Mel talks us through the details.
